About Us
The Water Authority of Western Nassau County is a self-supporting, public benefit corporation operating by virtue of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. It is without taxing power and operates as a business enterprise.
The Water Authority is nonprofit and the only revenue that it receives is obtained from the sale of water to its customers and related fees. All revenue received must be used for operating expenses, construction costs and for paying outstanding debts.
The Water Authority has more than 28,000 customers, serving a population of approximately 120,000 in the towns of Hempstead and North Hempstead on Long Island in New York.
