The Water Authority of Western Nassau County Enters into Emergency Preparedness for Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hermine and all Ensuing Events of the 2016 Season

The Water Authority of Western Nassau County (“the Water Authority”) has taken all steps to assure that the water supply will remain safe and available during the 2016 storm season.  Although Hermine is currently considered a tropical storm it has the potential to be upgraded to Hurricane status with winds that can impact the ongoing power supply.

All of our emergency power supply located at strategic facilities are ready for potential power outages. All water storage facilities are currently at full capacity. Water Authority staff are on call in order to address any supply issues which may occur and continue safe and available water to its 120,000 residents.

We advise that each of our customers prepare for this event as well by storing water in bathtubs for toilet flushing as well as keeping a minimum of three gallons per person available in clean containers for drinking purposes. Please note that mandatory water conservation and restrictions are in effect until after each storm passes.
