Emergency Notification Form

Additional Well Being Placed In Service

June 23, 2020 - Due to increased demand, the Water Authority has placed additional pumps in service last evening and today.

When an additional pump is placed in service, it may result in localized discolored water in the general area. The Water Authority will be monitoring the area to minimize any service issues.
Areas affected may include Elmont, Floral Park, Franklin Square, and Valley Stream.

If discoloration does occur, the water will continue to be safe and pose no health risks. Discolored water usually results when sediment on the bottom of water mains is disturbed by a reversal in the direction of water flow or a sudden change in pressure. When the flow equalizes, the water will clear up as the sediment settles out of the water.

If you experience any discoloration, to let your cold water faucet run for at least 15 minutes until the water runs clear.
Customers should refrain from using hot water until their cold water clears and avoid doing any laundry until the water clears.
If the problem persists, please contact the Water Authority at (516) 327-4100.

Outside Water Use Restrictions

The Water Authority reminds customers that all residents of Nassau County are prohibited from outside water usage year-round between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

In addition, the following restrictions apply:

  • Customers with Odd-Numbered addresses may only water on Odd-Numbered Days
  • Customers with Even-Numbered addresses or premises without a numbered address, may only water on Even-Numbered Days.
In addition, the summer weather has resulted in extraordinary demand for water service.  In order to avoid more serious problems that would hinder our ability to provide water for fire protection and other essential services, we are calling on our customers to voluntarily reduce outdoor water usage such as lawn watering and car washing or similar non-essential water usage.

Should you have any questions, please contact our customer service department  at (516) 327-4100 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
